This is a blog-ified version of this X thread: https://x.com/amitavkrshna/status/2079752248872050770, with some minor edits. Also, these photos were actually taken yesterday, 2026-07-20, but I chose to exercise my free will and post them today instead.

1/7

First goose photo I don’t like this one because the camera isn’t straight and the geese are far away. It will be okay after some cropping + rotation

2/7

Second goose photo I like this one a little bit, but I think it could also be improved by cropping from the left such that the geese take up ~all of the frame.

3/7

Third goose photo I like this one a lot, the only thing I would change is somehow getting the other two geese to skedaddle.

4/7

Fourth goose photo This is the same goose as pictured above. I like that I’m close to the subject matter, though I think it could be improved by:

  • increasing the contrast,
  • cropping out the dead grass from the top. This is the same goose as pictured above. I like that I’m close to the subject matter, though I think it could be improved by:

5/7

Fifth goose photo I wasn’t planning on taking this photo originally, but a minute after beginning to bike home I saw these folks in the water and knew I had to get a picture. This one is mediocre because it’s quite dark and the bench is the main subject, but I think that could be fixed.

6/7

Sixth goose photo Blurry, out of focus, uninteresting angle.

7/7

Seventh goose photo Saw this smaller, oddly coloured goose on the side of the river. Also blurry and out of focus.

8/7

Eigth goose photo. The first goose photo but cropped and rotated. This is #1 cropped and rotated. Much better, but still mediocre because of the distance to the subject. I think this is the optima given the original image, because too much cropping makes everything blurry.

9/7

Ninth goose photo. The second goose photo but cropped from the left and from the bottom. This is #2 cropped from the left (and the bottom so that the geese are in the middle). I was conflicted about cropping out the unknown pole-shaped object, but I think it looks better without it.

10/7

Tenth goose photo. The fourth goose photo but cropped from the top and from the bottom This is #4 cropped from the left and top + with brightness and contrast turned up. I think it looks better, with the only caveats is that the vibe is changed now that the geese is in the top left corner (feels like it’s running away) and it’s quite clear that it’s out of focus now.

11/7

Eleventh goose photo. The fifth goose photo but with the brightness and contrast increased. This is #5 with the brightness and contrast increased. I couldn’t figure out how to crop it so that the river didn’t look like a lake or that it didn’t feel like you would bump your head on the sky getting up from the bench.
